Our Story
Why did we start Performance Medicine?
Dr. Ryan Joseph | Co-Founder, Performance Medicine
Dr. Joseph spent a decade in the Emergency Department—on the front lines of treating the complications of chronic illness. After years of seeing the same patients return with the same preventable conditions, something clicked: there has to be more to medicine than patching people up just to send them back out the door.
That realization set him on a new path—one that focuses on prevention, performance, and building real foundations for long-term health.
An athlete at heart, Dr. Joseph has completed half Ironmans, countless half marathons, competed nationally in CrossFit, and now trains for Hyrox fitness races and CrossFit competitions. He brings that same drive and discipline to how he cares for patients—blending cutting-edge medicine with a deep understanding of how the body performs best over time.
Dr. Joseph is fellowship trained in Bedside Ultrasound and continues to expand his knowledge, most recently through advanced coursework in Precision Medicine with Wild Health. His mission? Help people move from crisis care to optimal health—and live longer, stronger, more functional lives.
Outside of work Dr. Joseph likes to spend time with his family (wife and a 1 and 3 year old son) compete in Crossfit and Hyrox and travel.
Rob Guzman | Co-Founder, Performance Medicine
Rob’s journey didn’t start in a gym—it started in engineering. But after years of building systems, he realized what he really wanted to build was people. So he made a bold shift: he traded spreadsheets for barbells and began helping others transform their health from the inside out.
Over the last decade, Rob has owned and operated a successful gym, ranked top 10 nationally in Olympic Weightlifter in 2 weight classes, ranked top 10 nationally in Powerlifting, coached hundreds of clients, became a certified nutrition coach, pre & postnatal coaching specialist, life coach, and personal fitness/performance coach. His passion? Equipping people with the confidence, mindset, and systems they need to create sustainable change for longevity.
Rob doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all fixes. He believes in educating people how to fuel their bodies, move with strength and purpose, and take ownership of their future. At Performance Medicine, he’s helping lead a movement—blending real coaching with real healthcare, and proving that longevity isn’t just about living longer, it’s about living well with a purpose.
When he has spare time, Rob loves to spend time with his family, ride motorcycles, travel, train jujitsu and shoot guns. Above all, he is a son of God and gives Him all the glory.
